From November 5 to 6, 2025, the Leadership Transition Conference and 2025 Annual Meeting of the Guangdong University New Media Alliance was held at Jinan University. The meeting successfully elected a new leadership body, with Jinan University being appointed as the alliance's new chairman unit. Leaders from the Provincial Education Working Committee of the CPC and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, along with representatives from member institutions of the alliance's council, attended the event.
At the opening ceremony, Tang Wenhao—Member of the Provincial Education Working Committee of the CPC, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education—and Chen Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University, delivered keynote speeches respectively. The meeting noted that amid profound transformations in the media landscape and rapid advancements in communication methods, new media professionals across Guangdong's universities have proactively explored and forged ahead, continuously optimizing operational efficiency, expanding communication channels, and amplifying mainstream values.

The meeting emphasized several key requirements for all member universities: to elevate their political standing and promote the in-depth study and dissemination of the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC; to uphold the correct political direction by holding high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics; to anticipate trends, pursue innovation, and take the lead in the era of media convergence; to strengthen risk assessment, safeguard the bottom line against online public opinion hazards; and to enhance coordination and synergy, jointly depicting the vibrant picture of Guangdong's education, telling compelling stories of Guangdong's educational development, and contributing the wisdom and strength of the education communication sector to Guangdong's efforts to take the lead in advancing Chinese modernization.

During the meeting, the alliance's Standing Council reviewed and approved the membership applications of 10 universities, including Guangdong Medical University and Huizhou Engineering Vocational College. Following a formal election process, Jinan University was officially confirmed as the new chairman unit of the alliance, with the handover of the chairman unit plaque successfully completed.

The annual meeting also featured a series of academic and exchange activities. Distinguished guests were invited to deliver keynote lectures, including Fan Yijin—former Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Jinan University and former President of Southern Daily, Jin Xue—Editor-in-Chief of New Media at the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Lin Zhongxuan—Director of the Computational Communication Research Center at Jinan University, and Su Yunsheng—Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee and Director of the Integrated Media Center of Jinan University. Additionally, participants visited and held in-depth discussions at the Guangzhou Daily Integrated Media Center and Baidu PaddlePaddle (Guangzhou) Artificial Intelligence Industry Empowerment Center.

This conference summarized the achievements of new media work in Guangdong's universities and outlined directions for future development. As the new chairman unit, Jinan University will lead the alliance in further promoting cooperation, exchange, and innovation in the field of new media among higher education institutions in Guangdong.
