The inaugural JNU Medical Academician Forum was held on July 7 at Jinan University's Shipai Campus, featuring a keynote lecture by Academician Wang Zhenchang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on cutting-edge developments and future directions in medical imaging. Organized by the Jinan University Medical Department, the event drew a wide audience of faculty, students, and researchers.

Vice President Hong An of Jinan University presided over the forum and delivered opening remarks. She outlined the goals of the newly launched Jinan Medical Academician Forum series, emphasizing its role as a platform for fostering academic exchange and interdisciplinary innovation.
In his lecture titled Current Landscape and Reflections on Innovation in Medical Imaging, Academician Wang Zhenchang analyzed the ongoing transformation of medical imaging from multiple perspectives—including data, imaging, intelligence, equipment, and knowledge expansion. Drawing on his team’s research experience, he illustrated innovative approaches integrating medicine and engineering, highlighting the enabling role of artificial intelligence in advancing intelligent medical imaging systems. He also proposed the development of a large-scale medical imaging cloud platform to better serve public health needs. Wang encouraged attendees to embrace innovation, shift from a follower to a pioneer mindset, and strengthen the role of interdisciplinary research in scientific and technological advancement.
During the open discussion session, Academician Wang and participating experts explored a range of forward-looking issues, including the trends in intelligent medical imaging, ethical considerations in medical AI, development pathways for domestically produced smart healthcare equipment, and prospects for clinical application.
In her closing address, Vice President Hong An noted that the lecture vividly presented the latest dynamics in medical imaging, broadening the horizons of participants and stimulating innovative thinking. She called on faculty and students to follow Academician Wang's example by embracing the spirit of scientific inquiry and striving for excellence with a pragmatic approach.
The JNU Medical Academician Forum was established to provide a high-level platform for academic exchange and to promote interdisciplinary integration and innovation. It is reported that the forum will continue to invite leading experts from China and abroad to contribute to the high-quality development of medical disciplines at Jinan University.

Wang Zhenchang is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He currently serves as Dean of the School of Medical Imaging at Capital Medical University and Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Digestive Health. His research focuses on physiological and pathological information detection, sensing technologies, and related instrumentation. He also holds editorial roles for several academic journals and has received honors such as the National May 1st Labor Medal.
