In response to Guangdong's “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Plan”, a Commando Team — formed jointly by Jinan University’s Science and Innovation Leadership Elite Class and the Green Youth Volunteers — carried out a practical initiative from July 12 to 13 in Huzhen Town, Boluo County, Huizhou City. The activities focused on applying technology and protecting the ecology to help boost high-quality development at the county level.

On the morning of July 12, the team met with officials from the Huzhen Town government and related departments. Deputy Mayor Li Wenguan outlined the locality’s socioeconomic conditions, ecological protection challenges, and industrial needs. Both sides exchanged views on water quality testing and upgrading the tea industry, setting the stage for further collaboration.
That same day, under the guidance of faculty specialists, the team collected water, soil, and tea samples from key locations including Xiangang Reservoir and the Shiyaba tea plantation. These will be analyzed by the School of Environment and Climate at Jinan University to build a “water-soil-crop” profile and provide data informed planting advice — supporting improved tea quality and brand development.

A research subgroup also visited the Shiyaba Tea Cooperative, conducting surveys and interviews with villagers, growers, and local officials to better understand ecological conditions, industrial status, and technological needs — providing a basis for Huzhen’s green development planning.
On July 13, the team visited an aerospace breeding base to learn about space induced mutation breeding and its applications in modern agriculture. They also toured Xinzuotang Village — a national “One Village, One Product” demonstration village — learning about its development path and Hakka cultural history. The visit highlighted the integration of technological innovation and cultural heritage.

The practice offered initial support for ecological and industrial improvement in Huzhen Town. The team will continue to carry out specialized work such as water testing, helping translate university expertise into practical rural development.
