Shanxi University of Finance and Economics Heads to Jinan University for Interdisciplinary Collaboration

In a bid to deepen academic collaboration and advance interdisciplinary innovation, a delegation from Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) visited Jinan University on July 16. The talks focused on discipline construction, the establishment of key laboratories, talent cultivation, and joint scientific research initiatives.
Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and president of Jinan University, welcomed SUFE's arrival and emphasized the potential of cross-disciplinary collaboration. He urged both institutions to leverage their strengths in talent, research, and think tanks to create innovative practice platforms and drive high-quality development.
Tian Xiangyu, president of SUFE, stressed that breaking down disciplinary silos is essential for academic innovation. He highlighted the need to promote the integration of arts and sciences, with particular emphasis on merging big data technology with traditional humanities and social sciences. He called for the development of a philosophy and social science discipline system that reflects Chinese characteristics.
Song Xianzhong, former president of Jinan University and director of the Key Laboratory of the Community of Human and Natural Life, reiterated the university's core responsibility: cultivate morally grounded and talented individuals. He noted that research breakthroughs should align with talent development, and that key laboratories should serve as engines for nurturing innovative minds.
Li Wenjing, dean of Jinan University’s School of Management, provided an overview of the college’s history, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, research achievements, and international exchanges. Kou Ying, director of the Degree Office and Professional Degree Office at Jinan University’s Graduate School, illustrated how professional degree programs in accounting and auditing are advancing high-level applied talent cultivation within the framework of “new liberal arts.”
Shen Hongtao, deputy director of the Key Laboratory of the Community of Human and Natural Life, shared details about the lab's research teams and notable achievements in interdisciplinary fields such as environmental accounting and green finance. He expressed enthusiasm for ongoing interdisciplinary cooperation and joint construction between SUFE and Jinan University.
During the visit, attendees conducted on-site inspections of the Key Laboratory of the Community of Human and Natural Life. The exchanges offered fresh perspectives on fostering interdisciplinary integration and cultivating innovative talent, and laid a solid foundation for future collaborations between the two institutions.
