In a recent announcement, the Ministry of Education revealed the results of the 2024 Respect for Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture publicity and education campaign targeting universities. Notably, all three projects submitted by Jinan University were selected, marking the best results in its history of participation.
Among the selected projects, the Publicity Department of JNU Party Committee's initiative titled Utilizing Active Red Resources to Innovate the Training Model for Hong Kong and Macao Students - Cultural Education Activity of 'Passing on the Red Torch of Jinan' was chosen as a case study in the Forging Souls and Nourishing Hearts category for cultural education innovation. Additionally, the Overseas Chinese Historical and Cultural Digital Exhibition Hall from the World Overseas Chinese Literature Museum was recognized for the Creating and Inheriting Cultural Heritage themed digital micro exhibition. Lastly, the video micro course My Embroidery, My Heart - The Preservation and Creation of Guangxiu Inheritance, produced by the Cultural Heritage Creative Industry Research Institute, was selected as an innovative micro course focusing on the preservation of intangible cultural heritage skills under the Hundred Craftsmanship theme.
The campaign selected a total of 100 innovative cultural education cases, 51 joint digital micro exhibitions, and 100 video micro courses, showcasing JNU's remarkable contributions to the preservation and innovation of traditional Chinese culture amidst a competitive national landscape.
The Red Jinan Flame Inheritance cultural education initiative, developed by the Publicity Department of JNU Party Committee, highlights a series of activities commemorating significant historical milestones such as the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China and the 11th Party Congress of Jinan University. This program integrates online and offline learning to deepen understanding of Party history and school heritage, fostering patriotism and loyalty among students and faculty. Since its inception, the initiative has attracted over 40,000 visitors across five campuses in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen, while online components have engaged audiences through promotional videos and interactive quizzes.
The Overseas Chinese History and Culture Digital Exhibition Hall, created by the World Overseas Chinese Literature Museum, utilizes advanced VR technology to replicate a physical exhibition space. This immersive experience allows visitors to explore the history and contributions of overseas Chinese through an accessible online platform, breaking geographical barriers and enhancing global engagement with Chinese cultural heritage.
Furthermore, the video micro course My Embroidery, My Heart showcases Guangxiu, a form of folk embroidery recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. This project, part of a broader initiative to study and promote Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, involved over 80 students in hands-on research and documentation, merging traditional practices with modern media to reach wider audiences.
The Ministry of Education's campaign aims to encourage universities to explore and promote traditional Chinese culture, fostering cultural confidence and innovation among students and educators alike. The recognition of JNU's projects exemplifies its commitment to these goals and reflects its adherence to General Secretary Xi Jinping's vision for cultural education.
Moving forward, JNU will continue to leverage red resources, emphasize overseas Chinese heritage, and promote intangible cultural heritage, striving to cultivate a new generation of youth imbued with patriotism and cultural confidence while contributing to the rich tapestry of traditional Chinese culture.
