Jinan University achieved outstanding success at the inaugural College Students’ New Liberal Arts Practice and Innovation Competition, held from December 20 to 22 in Jinan, Shandong. Guided by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Shandong University, the event featured top student works from across the country.

Jinan University sent eight entries to the national finals, garnering impressive honors: 2 gold awards, 2 silver awards, 3 bronze awards, and 1 excellence award. This performance tied the university for 10th place in the total number of gold medals and also earned the title of “Excellent Organizational Unit.”
During the final on-site presentations, teachers and students from Jinan University demonstrated remarkable innovation and professionalism. The following projects earned gold awards:
1. Salary Transmission Time: Bay Area Youth Public Welfare Communication Practice Platform,” led by Liang Dong from the School of Journalism and Communication, under the guidance of Liu Tao, Cai Xinyin, and Chen Jiarui.
2.“Innovative Practice to Improve International Communication Efficiency—Taking the Social Service of the ‘True Exploration’ Studio as an Example,” led by Zhou Jing, under the guidance of Luo Xin, Cai Xinyin, and Cheng Shenghui.
3.“Carbon Rope New Path—Environmental Benefit Full Life Cycle Assessment of Seaweed Feed in Cattle Methane Reduction,” led by Huang Yuqian from the School of Management, under the guidance of Zhao Yang and Wang Qing.
4.“Research on Digital Copyright Trade and the External Communication of Modern Chinese Civilization,” led by Chen Hanzhang from the School of Journalism and Communication, under the guidance of Zhang Jianmin and Yan Qing.
Five faculty members—Liu Tao, Cai Xinyin, Chen Jiarui, Luo Xin, and Cheng Shenghui—were named “Excellent Guidance Teachers” and were honored with the silver award.
Competition Overview
This national event attracted over 170,000 students from 367 universities in 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, with nearly 25,000 projects spanning various fields, including arts, science, engineering, and medicine. Following preliminary and final online assessments, 404 projects from 184 universities made it to the on-site finals, resulting in 101 gold, 296 silver, 603 bronze, and 700 excellence awards.
As a cornerstone platform for strengthening liberal arts education in universities, the College Students’ New Liberal Arts Practice and Innovation Competition aims to transform the “soft power” of emerging talent into a“hard support” for high-quality development. It is a key initiative to enhance talent cultivation quality and a vivid example of teaching reform in higher education.

Looking Ahead
Jinan University's successes underscore the depth of professional competence and innovative abilities among its humanities and social sciences students. Moving forward, the university will continue to uphold the school motto—“loyalty, trustworthiness, and respect”—and remain committed to cultivating both moral character and academic excellence. By leveraging new liberal arts construction, Jinan University will further expand practical education, foster students’ creativity, and guide them to address pressing challenges in China and beyond.
