On December 30, 2024, the 2024 China Association for Science and Technology Haizhi Youth Science and Technology Volunteer Service Winter Camp (Guangzhou Camp) arrived at Jinan University in Guangzhou, hosting 19 young overseas Chinese students. The event, organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, was attended by key figures including Xing Feng, a CAE academician and president of Jinan University, and Hong An, the university's vice president.
Activities and Experiences
During the camp, participants engaged in several enriching activities:
- Museum Visits: Campers explored the World Overseas Chinese Literature Museum and the Cultural Heritage Creative Industry Research Institute, where they learned about the history of overseas Chinese and the intricacies of traditional Chinese skills.
- Cultural Exchanges: The young international attendees conducted in-depth exchanges with Chinese students, fostering mutual understanding and friendship.

Special Lecture by Xing Feng
A highlight of the day was a special lecture delivered by Xing Feng on the topic of Resource Utilization of Solid Waste. Key points from the lecture included:
- Global Challenge: Xing emphasized the urgent need for sustainable development in light of global environmental degradation, highlighting that this is a shared responsibility of the international community.
- China’s Commitment: He discussed China's proactive measures in sustainable development, including robust environmental regulations, investment in green technologies, and initiatives aimed at ecological preservation.
- Research Insights: Xing shared practical experiences and research results from Jinan University that contribute to solid waste management and resource utilization.
- Encouragement of Application: During an interactive session, he encouraged campers to apply their knowledge practically, reinforcing their role in international scientific and technological collaboration.

Views on Youth Engagement
Officials from the China International Center for Science and Technology Exchange highlighted the importance of youth exchanges in fostering technological progress and innovation. They stated that these activities are vital for enhancing understanding between Chinese and foreign youth, stimulating interest in science and technology, and developing talents with global perspectives.

The event also saw participation from representatives of the International Exchange Department of the Guangzhou Association for Science and Technology, as well as Wang Yu, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of Jinan University, Gao Hao, Director of the Science and Technology Research Department, Chen Ping, Dean of the Cultural Heritage Creative Industry Research Institute, and Wang Hua, Deputy Director of the Library.
The 2024 Haizhi Youth Science and Technology Volunteer Service Winter Camp served as a productive platform for international exchange, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and learning among the next generation of scientists and innovators. Through these efforts, both Jinan University and the China Association for Science and Technology aim to strengthen partnerships with global youth, promoting cultural understanding and scientific advancement.
