The two-week visiting delegation from the University of Wollongong (UOW), Australia, concluded its academic visit at Jinan University on December 13, 2024. This initiative focused on academic exchange, cultural immersion, and practical investigations, aiming to provide overseas students with a deeper understanding of China.
Academic Exchange: Enhancing Perspectives on Cybersecurity
During the visit, notable scholars from the School of Cyberspace Security at Jinan University, including Professor Huang Xinyi, Professor Song Ling, and Dr. Liu Yi, engaged in meaningful academic discussions with the visiting students. Their interactions built a foundation for addressing technological challenges and seizing innovation opportunities in the digital age.

Cultural Immersion: Experiencing Traditional Chinese Heritage
The visiting students participated in a variety of cultural activities, allowing them to experience the richness of Chinese traditions. Highlights included:
- Chinese Language Learning
- Traditional Chinese Medicine practices such as acupuncture and moxibustion
- Guqin and Calligraphy and traditional martial arts
- Food Culture workshops
These activities showcased the depth of Chinese culture, providing students with immersive experiences, from exploring the elegance of calligraphy to understanding the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.

Exploring Lingnan Culture
The students also had the opportunity to experience Lingnan culture, visiting significant sites such as:
- Chen Clan Ancestral Hall: a symbol of family heritage
- Yongqing Fang: rich in historical significance
- Shamian Island: reflecting the blend of Chinese and Western influences
- Foshan Ancestral Temple: illustrating Lingnan's artistic charm through its unique architecture and lion dance performances
- Zhaoqing Museum and Qixingyan Lake area: offering insights into Guangdong's history and natural beauty

Industry Insights: Bridging Theory and Practice
A significant aspect of the visit included enterprise visits to leading Chinese technology companies. The delegation explored:
- Huawei's Songshan Lake Base
- Xiaopeng Motors’ fully automated production line
- Fanghe Data, a privacy computing-based data security service provider
These visits shed light on innovative practices and development trends in the global technology market.
Reflection and Future Prospects
During the closing ceremony from December 1-13, university leaders shared three key messages with the students:
1. Passion for Learning: Encouragement to remain curious and explore Chinese culture as ambassadors for friendly exchanges.
2. Application of Knowledge: Importance of applying learned knowledge in future endeavors to transform its value.
3. Cherishing Friendships: Recognition of the significance of cross-cultural friendships, emphasizing unity and cooperation.
The visiting students proudly presented their professional learning achievements and shared their cultural experiences during the graduation report session.
