On December 12, 2024, the Second National Adenovirus Academic Symposium took place at Jinan University. This significant event was organized in collaboration with the Virology Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Microbiology and co-hosted by various esteemed institutions, including the School of Life Science and Technology at Jinan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 Conference Overview

The symposium attracted over 100 experts, scholars, and graduate students from prominent institutions such as:

- Capital Institute of Pediatrics

- Beijing Children's Hospital

- Peking Union Medical College

- Shanghai Children's Hospital

- Chinese Academy of Sciences

- Various universities, including Nanjing University and Southern Medical University

 Opening Ceremony

The conference was presided over by Zhang Qiwei, Vice Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology. Keynote addresses were delivered by:

- Zhang Xiaoxin, Vice President of Jinan University, who highlighted the university's achievements in biomedical sciences and the importance of ongoing collaboration in the field of virology.

- Guo Deyin, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, who emphasized the critical importance of adenovirus research in enhancing public health measures.

- Ma Yi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Life Science and Technology, who outlined the institute's development and its contributions to microbiology and virology.

 Key Presentations and Discussions

The symposium featured 19 distinguished experts presenting on various topics, including:

- Adenovirus epidemiology

- Infection and immunity

- Diagnosis, treatment, and prevention methods

- Adenovirus vector applications

A total of 34 abstracts were included, with presentations delivered in both English and Chinese, fostering a bilingual academic environment.

 Objectives and Outcomes

The symposium served as a vital platform for academic exchange, aimed at:

- Enhancing the fundamental research and clinical treatment of adenovirus.

- Developing effective vaccines and specific antiviral agents.

- Promoting the advancement of virology research in China.

In his summary of the conference, Qian Yuan highlighted the significance of the discussions, while Zhang Qiwei concluded the event with remarks on its success and future implications for the field.
