On December 5, 2024, the inaugural academic conference on Sustainable Finance and Development in the Digital Age took place at Lingnan University in Hong Kong. This conference was jointly organized by the School of Management at Jinan University and the School of Business at Lingnan University, supported by the Inclusive Finance and Digital Economy Research Center.
Conference Highlights
The conference focused on the critical intersection of financial innovation and sustainable development. Key activities included:
- Keynote Speeches: Three distinguished speakers shared insights on various aspects of sustainable finance.
- Paper Presentations: Seven papers were presented, covering topics such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, cybersecurity, and cryptocurrency.
- Doctoral Thesis Exchange Session: This session facilitated discussions between senior researchers and emerging scholars, promoting knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Over 40 experts and scholars from around the globe participated, contributing to meaningful discussions and academic networking.
Keynote Speakers and Presentations
- Opening Remarks: Leng Mingming from the School of Business at Lingnan University welcomed attendees, emphasizing the significance of sustainable finance amidst the evolving digital landscape, and expressed hopes for valuable insights that could benefit the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
- Li Wenjing, Dean of the School of Management at Jinan University, discussed the university’s mission to cultivate business leaders and promote the Chinese business spirit. He highlighted the importance of sustainable finance in enhancing the competitiveness of financial institutions and fostering inclusive economic growth.
Notable Studies Presented
- Li Xiaohui presented research on how mandatory climate risk disclosures by insurance companies influence the environmental friendliness of corporate bond investors.
- Si Fangbo discussed Data Security Risks and Insider Transactions, exploring the discrepancies between a company's discretionary information disclosure and real threats.
Future Collaborations
This conference represents a promising step toward innovative collaborations between the two institutions. By pooling resources and expertise, Jinan University and Lingnan University aim to create greater academic synergy and enhance their international influence.
