The 12th Guangdong Provincial University Games is set to take place in Guangzhou from May 5 to June 5, 2025. This announcement was made during a press conference on January 5, 2025.

 Event Details

- Host and Organizers: The event will be hosted by Jinan University, with co-organization from several institutions, including:

  - Sun Yat-sen University

  - South China University of Technology

  - South China Normal University

  - Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

  - Guangdong Pharmaceutical University

  - Guangzhou Sport University

- Competition Structure: The Universiade will feature 12 major events:

  - Athletics

  - Swimming

  - Basketball

  - Volleyball

  - Football

  - Table Tennis

  - Badminton

  - Tennis

  - Martial Arts (including routines and weapon forms)

  - Aerobics

  - Cheerleading

  - Orienteering

  In total, there will be 517 sub-events organized into three groups:

  - Group A: Regular undergraduate students

  - Group B: High-level sports teams and sports majors

  - Group C: Students from vocational and technical colleges

- Additional Activities: As part of the Universiade, a sports science paper presentation will also be held.

 Jinan University's Role

Jinan University will oversee the opening and closing ceremonies, the sports science presentations, and specific events such as track and field, martial arts, orienteering, aerobics, as well as football and basketball-themed activities. The university has upgraded its facilities to ensure a high-quality experience for all participants.

During the press conference, the emblem, mascot, and anthem for this year's Universiade were officially unveiled.

 Participation and Impact

The event is expected to attract over 20,000 coaches and athletes from 150 universities, surpassing the scale of previous editions. Since its inception in 1981, the Guangdong Provincial University Games have been instrumental in enhancing school sports, promoting physical health among students, and fostering the development of youth culture and sports talent in the province.

Cheng Daxin, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, emphasized the significance of the Universiade in improving the competition system and nurturing future sports talents.

 Inspirational Message

Chinese track and field athlete and professor Su Bingtian, during the press conference, shared his journey and encouraged young athletes to embrace a spirit of perseverance and ambition, stating, No one can be young forever, but there are always people who move forward bravely.
