On December 20, 2024, marking the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland, 20 students from Jinan University in Macau participated in the live broadcast of the celebration and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth government of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

 Personal Reflections and Aspirations

Among the students was Chen Haiming, a graduate student from the College of Life Sciences and Technology, who reflected on his journey since being born in the year of Macau's return. Having studied in mainland China for eight years, he shared how patriotic activities during his schooling in Macau inspired him to pursue ecology studies.

Huang Xiaolin, a 2022 undergraduate from the College of Information Science and Technology, noted the growing connections between Macau and the mainland. He highlighted the evolution of transportation and policies, such as the opening of Hengqin Port and Qingmao Port, which have expanded opportunities for Macau's youth.

 Career Aspirations in Hengqin

Students expressed a strong desire to work in Hengqin after graduation. Yao Chen, a 2022 undergraduate from the School of Journalism and Communication, emphasized the importance of understanding Chinese culture and customs to facilitate integration into the mainland.

Guo Kailan, a 2021 undergraduate from the College of Liberal Arts, shared her commitment to learning Mandarin and her aspiration to return to Macau as a history teacher, aiming to spread Chinese culture to future generations.

 Jinan University's Impact

Jinan University is recognized as a leading institution for overseas Chinese, with over 2,700 students currently enrolled from Macau. Over the past 25 years, the university has produced more than 30,000 alumni who have gone on to work in various sectors, including healthcare, finance, and media. With Macau's population exceeding 600,000, Jinan University alumni represent a significant presence, with approximately one in every six families in Macau connected to the university.

This anniversary not only celebrates Macau's return but also highlights the ongoing contributions of Jinan University to the education and development of Macau's youth, fostering a strong bridge between the two regions.
