On November 28, 2024, Jinan University celebrated a significant achievement at the Yihai Kerry Cup, part of the 20th season of the Innovation Competition held at Guangyuan East Campus. This event, organized by the Academic Affairs Office of the Undergraduate School and the Golden Dragon Fish Charity Foundation, showcased innovative projects focusing on various themes such as science and technology, humanities, rural revitalization, and mental health. After rigorous selection rounds, seven teams advanced to the main competition, culminating in the awarding of one Best Project Award, one Most Popular Award, and two Excellent Project Awards.
Award-Winning Projects
1. Best Project Award: Handheld Chinese Characters - Digitized Empowerment, Personalized Teaching
This project addresses the challenges faced by international students learning Chinese due to a lack of resources. The team developed a digital platform for Chinese character learning that incorporates:
- Quantitative Analysis: Tailoring learning experiences to different proficiency levels.
- Hierarchical Teaching: Implementing structured learning paths.
- AIGC Review Technology: Enhancing the learning experience through engaging methods that combine education and entertainment.
The judges praised the project for its potential and suggested incorporating elements like calligraphy to showcase traditional Chinese culture more effectively.
2. Most Popular Award: 'Boundless Light and Shadow' - Accessible Film Production and Promotion
Addressing the needs of visually impaired individuals, this project focuses on creating accessible films by integrating descriptive audio that explains visual elements. Key activities include:
- Practical Activities: Conducting screenings and training volunteers at venues like the Guangzhou Library.
- Future Plans: Developing a comprehensive strategy for promoting accessible films.
Project leader Chen Jiashuo emphasized that accessible films offer a richer experience for visually impaired viewers compared to standard broadcasts.
3. Excellent Project Award: Olive Carving Craftsmanship, Intelligent Painting Inheritance
This initiative aims to promote the intangible cultural heritage of olive carving in Guangzhou through a digital communication platform. The project involves:
- Research and Development: Conducting surveys and interviews to understand the challenges in skill inheritance and awareness.
- Interactive Platform: Creating engaging mini-programs that allow users to learn about and experience olive carving through quizzes and competitions.
Project leader Huang Xianhan highlighted the team's passion for olive carving, which inspired the project's development and future offline activities.
4. Excellent Project Award: Nanxiong Red Charm - Empowering Rural Revitalization with Script Kill + Red Tourism
This project aims to enhance rural revitalization in Nanxiong, Shaoguan City, by combining murder mystery experiences with red tourism. It includes:
- Cultural IP Development: Creating a series of interactive scripts based on local revolutionary history.
- Tourism Integration: Designing immersive experiences that showcase local culture, cuisine, and historical landmarks.
Project leader Wen Yirong explained how the project leverages real historical events to enrich tourists' understanding of the region's red culture.

The competition concluded with a ceremony where Yang Wanbing, Vice Dean of the School of Chinese Literature, and Feng Haibo from the School of Economics presented certificates to the winning teams. This event not only highlights Jinan University's commitment to innovation and cultural integration but also demonstrates the potential of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing societal challenges. The university looks forward to continuing its efforts in fostering creativity and collaboration across various fields.
