On December 24-25, Jinan University convened a strategic seminar at the International Conference Hall of the Science Museum to outline its 2024 development plan. The seminar centered on the theme of fostering high-quality and connotative development of academic disciplines, aiming to advance the university's goal of becoming a distinctive Double First Class institution.

Key Attendees and Objectives
The seminar featured prominent figures including Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Jinan University, alongside university leaders and middle-level cadres. Notable guests included Huang Daren, former president of Sun Yat-sen University, and Yao Xinsheng, an academician and honorary president of the College of Pharmacy at Jinan University.
The event commenced with an opening ceremony where President Xing Feng delivered a keynote speech titled Strategic Thinking on the High Quality and Connotation Development of Disciplines at Jinan University. He provided a comprehensive analysis of the university’s historical context and future direction regarding Double First Class construction, emphasizing the need to enhance core competitiveness and align with major national strategies.

Insights on Discipline Construction
Huang Daren followed with a keynote report, Some Thoughts on Discipline Construction, addressing evaluation criteria, construction content, and the organizational role within discipline development. He highlighted the importance of adapting discipline construction to current technological and societal advancements, urging attendees to monitor cutting-edge developments and adjust discipline layouts accordingly.

Group Discussions and Collaborative Input
On the afternoon of December 24, participants engaged in group discussions focusing on various topics, including subject optimization, talent cultivation, and the management of academic teams. These discussions aimed to generate actionable recommendations for the university’s future development.
The seminar concluded on December 25 with designated speakers presenting their group findings. President Xing Feng praised the conference for fostering a problem-oriented approach and consolidating consensus among attendees. He outlined five key directives for middle-level cadres:
1. Enhance Understanding: Deeply study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's educational discourse to foster a shared vision.
2. Talent Development: Actively pursue talent attraction and training, exploring high-quality development paths for diverse disciplines.
3. Service Optimization: Focus on teaching and research while deepening institutional reforms.
4. Global Engagement: Seek development through service and actively pursue educational resources.
5. Strategic Planning: Strengthen top-level design and plan coordinated development across regions and campuses.
This seminar marks a pivotal moment in Jinan University's development, as it collectively addresses the future direction of discipline construction and accelerates its progress toward becoming a Double First Class university.
