Ren Jianbin, a master's student in Optical Engineering from the Department of Optoelectronics Engineering at the College of Physics and Optoelectronics Engineering, achieved remarkable success at the recently concluded 2024 Guangdong Provincial College Athletics Championships, held at Jinan University’s Shipai Campus. The event, hosted by the Education Department of Guangdong Province, attracted 1,867 athletes from 126 universities across the province.

Ren excelled in the competition, securing two gold medals, one bronze, and a fourth-place finish. In the men's A group 200m final, he claimed the championship with a time of 22.56 seconds, successfully defending his title. He also earned a bronze medal in the men's A group 100m final with a time of 10.98 seconds. Additionally, he contributed to the relay team's success, winning the championship in the mixed A group 4x200m relay and finishing fourth in the men's 4x100m relay.
Ren's impressive track record includes notable achievements in both national and provincial competitions. In August 2023, he participated in the 21st National College Athletics Championships, where he recorded a time of 10.83 seconds in the men's first division 100m preliminary, qualifying as a national first-class athlete for the first time. He finished fifth in the men's first division 100m final and was later recognized as an Outstanding Athlete at the 22nd National College Athletics Championships in July 2024. In provincial events, he won the men's A group 100m championship and secured a bronze medal in the 200m at the 2022 Guangdong Provincial University Athletics Championships. He also claimed the bronze medal in the men's A group 100m and the championship in the 200m at the 2023 championships.
At the 50th Track and Field Games of Jinan University, Ren defended his titles in the men's student group 100m and 200m events, adding to his impressive legacy. He previously broke records in both events during the school sports meet.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Ren Jianbin is dedicated to his academic research. Under the guidance of Professor Chen Zhenqiang, he has published high-level papers in prestigious journals such as Nature Communications and Optics Letters. His outstanding academic achievements have earned him the 2024 Jinan University Xiaomi Special Scholarship for graduate students, as well as third prizes at the 6th Jinan University Zhong Chen Yulan Research Forum and for Outstanding Graduate Backbone at Jinan University.
Ren Jianbin's accomplishments reflect his exceptional talent and dedication both on the track and in the classroom, making him a notable representative of Jinan University.
