On December 4th, the College of Foreign Studies, in collaboration with the High-Level International Talent Training Innovation Practice Base, hosted a special lecture titled Global Governance Talent Training. The event took place at the Panyu campus and featured distinguished speakers Zhang Ning, He Changchui, Yang Jin, and Li Genxin, who are members of the International Competence Training Professional Committee of the China Education Development Strategy Society. The lecture focused on the theme Global Governance and International Relations in the New Era, addressing the evolution, challenges, and opportunities within the current global governance system. Professor Pu Ruoxian, Dean of the College of Foreign Studies, hosted the lecture, which was attended by over 80 teachers and students.

Key Insights from the Speakers
Dr. He Changchui, an academician of the International Academy of Eurasian Sciences and former Deputy Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, opened the discussion by emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives in cultivating global governance talents. He highlighted that developing talents with an international outlook is crucial for the long-term development of both China and the global community.
Dr. Yang Jin, former Ambassador of China to UNESCO, discussed the transformation of the global governance system and its significant implications for the global economy. He analyzed the current global economic landscape, noting the profound adjustments taking place and the increasing trend toward multipolarity. Dr. Yang stressed the importance of China taking an active leadership role in reforming the global governance system to seize new opportunities.
Dr. Li Genxin, former Director of the External Relations and Legal Department of the United Nations Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization, focused on the cultural dimensions of global governance. He explored the challenges and opportunities presented by cross-cultural communication and cooperation, asserting that global governance involves not only economic and political interactions but also cultural exchanges. He provided case studies illustrating the positive impact of global culture on international cooperation.
Dr. Zhang Ning, Vice President of the China Education Development Strategy Society and former Deputy Secretary General of the China Scholarship Council, concluded the lecture by analyzing the historical evolution of global governance. He discussed the need for more equitable mechanisms and broader international cooperation in the current global landscape. Dr. Zhang emphasized the core challenge of global governance: balancing the interests of all parties to ensure that every country can contribute effectively.
Engagement and Future Directions
Following the presentations, there was an interactive session where teachers and students engaged in discussions about addressing climate change and enhancing cross-cultural cooperation in global governance.
Professor Pu Ruoxian concluded the event by highlighting the profound theoretical insights and practical guidance provided during the lecture. She expressed the school’s commitment to continue hosting similar lectures and academic exchanges to foster the development of global governance talents and enhance academic research in this vital field.
