On the morning of December 11th, Jinan University and the Bio Island Laboratory formalized their partnership by signing a strategic cooperation framework agreement aimed at promoting scientific and technological innovation and the effective transformation of research achievements into practical applications. The signing ceremony featured prominent attendees, including Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Jinan University, and Xu Tao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who is also the Deputy Director of Guangzhou Laboratory and Director of Bio Island Laboratory. The agreement was signed on behalf of both institutions by Li Xue, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Research Department at Jinan University, and Mao Lili, Assistant Director of the Bio Island Laboratory and Executive Dean of Huangpu University.

The agreement outlines a commitment to comprehensive collaboration in the life and health sectors, grounded in principles of mutual benefit, resource sharing, equality, and the enhancement of high-level technology productivity. Key initiatives include the establishment of a joint research and development center, the formation of a mass spectrometry team focused on biomedicine, the creation of a clinical cooperation network, and collaborative efforts to address core technical challenges. Additionally, the partnership aims to develop an instrument sharing platform to facilitate technological advancements and accelerate the transformation of scientific research outcomes.

Both organizations engaged in discussions regarding future collaborative efforts, focusing on national strategic needs. They agreed to pursue cooperative research and development projects related to high-end scientific instruments and medical devices, jointly applying for national technology research and development initiatives. The partnership will leverage Jinan University’s strengths in basic research alongside Bio Island Laboratory’s expertise in technology transfer and industrial incubation to expedite the commercialization of scientific achievements. Furthermore, the agreement emphasizes joint training in interdisciplinary talent to enhance cooperation through personnel exchanges.

The ceremony was attended by various noteworthy figures, including Professor Zhou Zhen from the School of Environment and Climate at Jinan University, Director of the Basic Education Office Zhang Dapeng, Executive Deputy Director of the Medical Department Zhang Shuixing, Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Technology Zhou Qinghua, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmacy Jiang Zhengjin, and leaders from the Bio Island Laboratory and their principal investigator team.
