On November 29, 2024, Jinan University celebrated its 118th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Panyu campus during an innovation and development conference held at the campus. The event highlighted the upcoming completion of the second phase of the Panyu campus project, expected by 2026, along with updates on the Shenzhen campus relocation and expansion.

Xing Feng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Jinan University, noted that the Panyu campus is the largest in terms of area and student capacity. Since its first phase was completed in September 2014, the campus has welcomed over 18,000 students, including 6,412 from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and international backgrounds.
The second phase of the Panyu campus project has received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, with construction of student dormitories T8 and T9 slated to begin in February 2023. Once completed, the campus will encompass a total area of 1 million square meters, accommodating more than 26,000 students and faculty.
Future plans for the Panyu campus include establishing centers for overseas talent training, scientific and educational innovation, industry-university collaboration, international cooperation, and the dissemination of Chinese culture, aiming to cultivate growth in emerging and interdisciplinary fields.
Additionally, President Xing mentioned that the Shenzhen campus is progressing with its relocation to a new site in Liuyue Community, Longgang District, covering 410.1 acres.
During the conference, Xing reflected on the Panyu campus's achievements in various disciplines and scientific research. The campus currently houses 15 colleges, offering programs in humanities, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, and engineering. Notable disciplines such as biomedicine, optoelectronics, new materials, and environmental ecology have developed significantly, resulting in 36 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites.
In research, the Panyu campus has established key facilities, including the National Key Laboratory of Bioactive Molecules and Drug Optimization and the Su Bingtian Speed Training and Research Center. The campus has also successfully developed new drugs, with contracts for new drug conversions exceeding 1.4 billion yuan.
The campus has created think tank platforms like the One Country, Two Systems and Basic Law Research Institute, focusing on significant issues such as the alignment of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao regulations and the long-term stability of Hong Kong and Macao.

Huo Zhenhuan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jinan University, remarked that the opening of the Panyu campus marked a significant milestone in the university's development. He expressed his commitment to supporting the university's growth and anticipated that the completed second phase would transform the Panyu campus into a vibrant hub for academic research and innovation.
