On December 1, Wan Gang, Chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and the Board of Directors of Jinan University, led a delegation to Hong Kong for a significant discussion with alumni representatives. The meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the university and its Hong Kong alumni network.

Joining Wan were Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Jinan University, along with other board members including Huo Zhenhuan and Yu Guochun, Vice Chairmen, and Cai Guanshen, Deputy Secretary General. Alumni representatives from various sectors, including Zhang Hanming, Zheng Jiangang, and Tang Jisheng, also attended, alongside staff from the China Association for Science and Technology and the university's Hong Kong office.
During his address, Wan Gang emphasized the crucial role of Hong Kong alumni in fostering regional and national development. He highlighted their achievements as a testament to the university's impact in talent cultivation and expressed a commitment to enhancing support for alumni in their career paths. Wan called for deeper collaboration with Hong Kong universities, noting the region's prominence in technological innovation and its potential to contribute to national progress.
In his welcome remarks, Huo Zhenhuan described the visit as a pivotal moment for collaboration between Jinan University and various sectors in Hong Kong. He acknowledged the significant contributions of past alumni in bridging connections between the university and the Hong Kong/Macau regions and encouraged continued cooperation for the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
Xing expressed gratitude for the alumni's engagement and noted the growth of 13 Hong Kong alumni organizations, which have fostered a robust alumni network. He reported an increase in applications from Hong Kong students to Jinan University, reflecting the positive influence of its alumni. Since 2007, the university has established nine joint laboratories with seven institutions in Hong Kong and Macau, including The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Xing looked forward to collaborating with nearly 80,000 alumni in Hong Kong to advance the university's development and contribute to the Greater Bay Area's growth.
The meeting concluded with alumni sharing their experiences and expressing gratitude for the education and support received from Jinan University. They provided valuable insights into future directions for talent development and collaboration with various sectors in Hong Kong, reinforcing the strong bond between the university and its alumni community.
