On November 21, 2024, Jinan University, in collaboration with the National Judges College, hosted the 2024 Judicial Protection Seminar on Overseas Chinese Rights and Interests. The seminar was guided by the Ninth Bureau of the Central United Front Work Department and the Research Office of the Supreme People's Court. This event took place at the university's Law School and Intellectual Property School, along with the Overseas Chinese Affairs and Rule of Law Research Institute in Guangzhou.
The primary objective of the seminar was to implement the directives from the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, aimed at enhancing the rule of law concerning overseas Chinese affairs. Participants explored contemporary challenges faced by overseas Chinese and discussed strategies for better protection of their rights and interests, aligning with China's modernization goals.
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University, Chen Ying, highlighted the university's commitment to serving overseas Chinese communities and cultivating talented individuals in the legal field. She emphasized Jinan University's long-standing dedication to the legalization of rights protection for overseas Chinese.
Officials from the Ninth Bureau of the Central United Front Work Department affirmed their commitment to reinforcing communication and cooperation with various institutions, including the Supreme People's Court, to safeguard the rights and interests of overseas Chinese and their families.
Yu Haisong, Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Court's Research Office, noted the significant progress in judicial protection for overseas Chinese through collaborative efforts with various organizations. He emphasized the importance of regular communication channels established for this purpose.
Xu Guangming, Vice President of the National Academy of Judges, stressed the institution’s role in facilitating theoretical and practical research while promoting judicial protections for overseas Chinese rights.
The seminar featured a keynote speech and three thematic discussions, focusing on critical topics such as legislative challenges, judicial practices, and the improvement of laws and regulations governing overseas Chinese interests. Experts engaged in fruitful discussions, reaching a consensus on multiple issues and proposing constructive suggestions for future development.

Prior to the event, Sun Yu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at Jinan University, welcomed leaders from various participating organizations. The seminar attracted over 70 experts and scholars from prominent bodies including the United Front Work Department, the Supreme People's Court, and various law schools and research institutions across China, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive dialogue on protecting overseas Chinese rights.
