The 2024 China Industrial Engineering Annual Conference and the 13th Industrial Engineering Enterprise Application and Practice Summit Forum took place at the Jinan University (Zhuhai) Academic Exchange Center from November 22 to 24, 2024. This significant event was hosted by the Industrial Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering and co-organized by various institutions, including the School of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering and the Industry School of Artificial Intelligence at Jinan University. The conference received robust support from the Zhuhai Association for Science and Technology.

The opening ceremony was led by Professor Qu Ting, Vice Chairman of the Industrial Engineering Branch, with Professor Gu Naihua, Vice President of Jinan University, delivering a welcome speech. He highlighted the vital role of industrial engineering in enhancing high-quality development through new productivity and introduced innovative measures undertaken by the university to support scientific and technological advancement in the Greater Bay Area.

Mr. Chao Guiming, Deputy Mayor of Zhuhai, expressed the city’s commitment to advancing industrial engineering through innovation while emphasizing collaborative efforts across sectors to boost modern industrial development in the region. Additionally, experts like Academician Yang Shanlin and Professor He Zhen underscored the importance of leveraging digitization and collaboration to drive the field forward.

The conference featured a series of theme reports, including an analytical presentation on future factory concepts by Professor Zheng Li from Tsinghua University and a deep dive into data-driven decision-making by Professor Tang Lixin, CAE Member and Vice President of Northeast University. Attendees also learned about practical innovations in intelligent manufacturing from Mr. Zhong Chengbao of Gree Electric Appliance Co., Ltd.

Interactive segments included six invited presentations, ten parallel sub-forums, and six academic paper presentations, which explored cutting-edge topics such as Intelligent Manufacturing, Smart Supply Chains, Data-Driven Quality Control, and Human-Machine Collaboration. The Discipline Construction Forum allowed experts to discuss innovative educational models for industrial engineering in the context of digital transformation.
Additionally, the enterprise report and roundtable forum featured leaders from prominent companies like SMC China and China FAW Group, who shared insights on the application of industrial engineering in intelligent manufacturing and digital transformation, providing a platform for discussing the challenges and experiences in enacting new quality productivity.

The conference attracted over 400 experts and scholars from more than 150 universities and enterprises, including prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua University and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Its theme, Empowering High-Quality Development of Industrial Engineering with New Quality Productivity, fostered high-level exchanges and collaborations aimed at driving technological innovation and enhancing educational practices in industrial engineering.
The successful hosting of this annual conference not only promotes the exchange of advancements in industrial engineering but also strengthens the integration of academic research and industry applications. By demonstrating a commitment to interdisciplinary and regional industrial integration, the School of Intelligent Science and Engineering and the School of Artificial Intelligence Industry continue to enhance the role of industrial engineering in the intelligent manufacturing sector of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The opening ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Professor Qi Ershi, Honorary Director of the Industrial Engineering Branch, and various local government officials, further underlining the event’s importance in linking industry, academia, and government initiatives for regional development.
