On November 18, 2024, the College of Information Science and Technology hosted its 2024 Undergraduate Course New Teacher Teaching Competition in Room 338 of the Nanhai Building. This initiative aimed to enhance the teaching skills of young instructors and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their abilities. The competition was structured in two levels: departmental and college-wide, with 19 new teachers participating. Following departmental preliminaries, six finalists were selected to compete in the college finals.

Vice Dean Zhao Shancheng opened the event with a speech emphasizing the college's commitment to teaching excellence. He noted that teaching is a fundamental responsibility of educators and plays a crucial role in advancing academic disciplines. Zhao described the competition as a sharpening stone for young teachers, encouraging them to engage fully in their teaching roles and to excel in the competition.

The competition featured a dual evaluation system, mirroring that of larger school competitions. It consisted of two main components: teaching design and classroom instruction. The six finalists prepared meticulously, delivering their lessons with confidence and clarity. They engaged students through questions, stimulating interest, and utilizing various teaching methods, including illustrations, formulas, and live demonstrations, effectively showcasing their enthusiasm and professionalism.

The expert judging panel commended the participants for their excellent performances and provided constructive feedback aimed at enhancing their teaching skills. They encouraged teachers to integrate research into their teaching practices, incorporate dynamic demonstrations, and enhance classroom engagement. Additionally, the judges highlighted the importance of embedding ideological and political education within professional courses and promoting gender equality in curriculum design.

After thorough evaluation, Xie Huiqiang and Wu Wentai were awarded first prize, while Wang Weiwen and Weng Juanjuan received second prize, and Ouyang Zhaoan and Wei Zhengzhen secured third prize. Xie and Wu will represent the college at the 8th Jinan University Undergraduate Course New Teacher Teaching Competition.
This competition served as a valuable platform for newly appointed teachers to exhibit their teaching capabilities and share experiences, ultimately fostering the enhancement of teaching quality and the evolution of pedagogical approaches. The College of Information Science and Technology plans to continue leveraging teaching competitions to promote educational reform and development, focusing on cultivating moral integrity and talent while refining teaching skills to support the college's high-level aspirations.
