A team of researchers led by Professor Fei Jia from the School of Medicine at Jinan University has made significant strides in addressing drug resistance in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). On August 23, 2024, the team published their findings in the esteemed journal Cell Death & Disease, with the paper titled Small RNA Activation of CDH13 Expression Over BCR-ABL1 Independent Imatinib Resistance and Their Signaling Pathway Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

The research explores the role of small RNA activation in enhancing CDH13 expression, presenting a promising approach to overcoming imatinib resistance—an important challenge in the treatment of CML.
Co-first authors of the study include Dr. Su Rui and Master's students Wen Ziqi, Zhan Xingri, and Long Yiling, all affiliated with Jinan University. Professor Fei Jia and Associate Professor Su Yubin from the School of Life Science and Technology at Jinan University are the co-corresponding authors of the paper. This project received financial backing from the Key Research and Development Project of Guangzhou Science and Technology Plan in 2022 (No. 202206010063).
