The results of the 9th China Optical Engineering Society Innovation Paper Award (National Excellent PhD in Optical Engineering) have recently been announced. The selection process for the doctoral theses involved four stages: recommendations from degree-granting institutions and industry experts, preliminary evaluations by the award office, peer expert communications for re-evaluation, and a final assessment by the Academician Expert Committee. The final review concluded in July 2024, resulting in the selection of seven innovative papers and seven nominated papers.

Ouyang Xu's thesis, titled Multidimensional Optical Information Storage Technology Based on Photon Angular Momentum Multiplexing, earned him the Innovation Paper Award. Ouyang, who graduated in 2022 under the supervision of Professor Li Xiangping, also saw Professor Li recognized with the Innovation Paper Supervisor Award.

Since 2016, the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering has initiated the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation award to enhance the training quality of doctoral students in optical engineering, promote their research and innovation capabilities, and encourage creative research achievements in the field, aiming for significant advancements in optical engineering.
