The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Council of the Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance and the International Academic Conference on the Development of Sino-Russian Medicine were successfully held in Guangzhou from July 5th to 7th, 2024. This significant event was hosted by the China-Russian Medical University Alliance and co-organized by Jinan University, Harbin Medical University, Moscow State First Medical University, and the Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association.

The opening ceremony featured distinguished guests, including Yang Baofeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and former president of Harbin Medical University; Grebaochka Peter, an academician of the Russian Federal Academy of Sciences and president of Moscow State First Medical University; and several prominent officials. Notable attendees included Chernosov, Consul General of the Russian Federation, Salagai, Secretary of State and Vice Minister of Health, and Xing Feng, President of Jinan University (also an academician of the CAE). The ceremony was presided over by Hong An, Vice President of Jinan University.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Sino-Russian diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the China-Russian Medical University Alliance. To commemorate these milestones, a special celebration was held during the conference, where 20 representatives from both countries participated in the ceremony to reflect on the alliance's achievements in medical education exchange, scientific research cooperation, and service improvement. Since its inception, the alliance has expanded from 92 to 140 member universities, actively engaging in multi-disciplinary dialogue and cooperation in medicine and education.

During the ceremony, Yang Baofeng presented the certificate of foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering to Graybaochka. The China-Russia Medical University Alliance Work Contribution Award was also presented to seven experts who made notable contributions to Sino-Russian medical collaboration. The awardees included:

- Liu Liang, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Academician)
- Xing Feng, Jinan University (Academician)
- Yesaiwulin, Voronezh State Medical University (Academician)
- Shumatov, Pacific State Medical University (Academician)

- Guo Jiao, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (Professor)

Following the opening ceremony, the conference held an international academic forum themed New Opportunities, New Platforms, and New Starting Points. It focused on international cooperation in medicine, offering three sub-forums: Biomedical, Gene and Cell Technology, Medical New Technology, and Personalized Medicine and Its Applications, along with two online sessions on Biopharmaceuticals and High-Tech Drugs and Healthcare Information Technology. Over 450 scholars from various Chinese and Russian universities engaged in lively discussions about trends, breakthroughs, and innovation across the medical and pharmaceutical fields.
Additionally, a council meeting of the alliance was conducted to discuss and finalize the next cooperation framework agreement between the participating institutions.
The China-Russian Medical University Alliance, envisioned by Yang Baofeng and launched with support from Harbin Medical University and Moscow State First Medical University, has grown into the largest and most extensive cooperation coalition between medical universities in China and Russia. Recognized in the Joint Statement of the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation on the Development of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation in the New Era in 2019, the alliance aims to enhance collaboration among medical universities, foster high-quality talent, and accelerate the application of new theories and technologies in disease prevention and treatment.
Jinan University officially joined the alliance in October 2021, establishing itself as an executive director unit. The university also founded the Jinan University China-Russia Medical Research Center, affiliated with the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University. The center is dedicated to advancing collaborative educational programs, mutual degree recognition, and credit transfer, while enhancing research partnerships and implementing innovative medical technologies, ultimately striving to facilitate the advancement of medical technology between China and Russia.
