The 9th Multidisciplinary Forum on Risk, Disaster, and Crisis took place at Jinan University from June 21st to 23rd. Themed Multidisciplinary Research on Risk, Disaster, and Crisis in the Context of High-Quality Development, the event brought together nearly 300 experts, scholars, and students from various universities, emergency management departments, and enterprises. Co-organized by the Social Risk and Public Crisis Management Research Center of Nanjing University and the School of Public Management and Emergency Management of Jinan University, the forum featured in-depth discussions on topics like emergency management knowledge systems and modernization strategies in the face of evolving risks.
In his inaugural address, Gu Naihua, a member of Jinan University's Standing Committee and Vice President, highlighted the escalating global natural disaster risk due to climate change. He emphasized the critical juncture China faces in terms of economic recovery and transformation, stressing the need to address emerging risks within evolving productive forces. Xue Lan, Dean of Su Shimin Academy at Tsinghua University, emphasized the urgent need for modernizing China's emergency management system, underscoring the importance of integrating Chinese characteristics and styles into the discipline.
The forum, initiated in 2015 by the Social Risk and Public Crisis Management Research Center of Nanjing University, aims to foster interdisciplinary research in risk, disaster, and crisis management, tackle current theoretical and practical challenges, and facilitate collaboration among experts from various disciplines in the field of risk governance and emergency management.
