The National Engineering Research Center for Genetically Engineered Drugs hosted the first meeting of its third technical committee on June 13 at Jinan University. The prestigious gathering saw over 40 attendees, including distinguished figures such as Li Xiaokun and Su Guohui, both esteemed academicians, as well as Xing Feng, President of Jinan University. Noteworthy participants also included Hong An, Director of the Engineering Center and Vice President of Jinan University, members of the technical committee, new leadership, and officials from relevant university departments.

Professor Xing Feng extended a warm welcome to the experts, expressing gratitude for their valuable input towards the advancement of the school's biopharmaceutical discipline. He highlighted the institution's efforts in bolstering the biomedicine group and lauded the Engineering Center's significant scientific achievements, which have garnered acclaim from the national and Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
In her address, Hong An comprehensively outlined the Engineering Center's structure, achievements, and forthcoming initiatives. Attendees were given a historical overview of the institute's milestones, from the inception of the Department of Biology to the recent approvals of the Genome Medicine Education Engineering Center and the National Engineering Research Center for Genetically Engineered Drugs.
Members of the Technical Committee commended the Engineering Center for its advancements in basic and technological research, offering constructive feedback on areas requiring further focus, including innovation, collaboration, and future development strategies. Hong An assured the implementation of these recommendations, emphasizing the center's commitment to talent optimization, technological expansion, and enhancement of genetic engineering drug research and development systems.
Looking ahead, the Engineering Center aims to leverage its strengths and the establishment of the Double First-Class Discipline of Pharmacy to drive innovation, develop novel drug varieties with intellectual property rights, and contribute to the high-quality development of biopharmaceuticals in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond. The meeting concluded on a note of optimism as the Engineering Center embarks on its next phase of growth and excellence.
