The 5th Basic Medical Innovation Research and Experimental Design Competition of Jinan University was held on May 10, 2024, organized by the School of Basic Medicine and Public Health and co-organized by the School of Pharmacy, School of Stomatology, and School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The event was attended by Vice Presidents of Jinan University, Hong An and Zhang Xiaoxin, along with over 200 leaders from relevant departments and representatives of participating teams, teachers, and students.

During the event, Vice President Hong An encouraged the participating students, emphasizing the potential impact of their research on the future of healthcare and human health. She highlighted the importance of technological innovation in creating new industries and driving progress in healthcare. Vice President Zhang Xiaoxin mentioned the significance of the competition being selected for the list of the National Forum on Innovative Research and Experimental Design in Basic Medicine for College Students by the Chinese Higher Education Association.

An award-winning student representative, Chen Yihua from Hong Kong, China, shared her experience and insights from participating in the competition, emphasizing the value of undergraduate innovation training projects in honing experimental skills, research methods, and fostering a love for scientific research among students.
The competition featured six groups covering various areas such as basic clinical, dental, traditional Chinese medicine, preventive medicine, the Belt and Road, and interdisciplinary studies. A total of 48 students from 8 colleges within the university competed across different majors, with 17 teams being recommended to participate in the second round of the Central South Division based on their projects. Notable projects included Treatment of diabetes by Patch Combining Microneedle Technology and Photogenetic Technology and Distribution and Functional Reversal of Aging γδ T Cell Subsets in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Refractory and Recurrent Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
The competition aimed to foster cross-disciplinary exchange, stimulate innovative thinking among students, enhance talent training models, and contribute to advancements in medical technology. The university expressed its commitment to promoting educational reforms, providing high-quality learning resources, and cultivating composite medical talents through such initiatives.
