First Affiliated Hospital Embarks on National Key R&D Program for Biological and Information Integration

In a momentous display of visionary leadership and cutting-edge research, the First Affiliated Hospital convened the launch ceremony and implementation plan demonstration meeting for the National Key R&D Program's pivotal project, Biological and Information Integration (BT and IT Integration): Building a Tumor Hypoxia Digital Twin System Based on Multiscale, Cross-temporal, and Heterogeneous Data, on May 19th in Guangzhou. Spearheaded by Prof. Zhang Shuixing, this transformative initiative endeavors to revolutionize the landscape of tumor diagnosis and treatment through the fusion of biological insights and information technology.

Distinguished luminaries from the realms of academia and scientific inquiry graced the occasion, with luminaries such as Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and President of Jinan University, Yang Baofeng and Wang Zhenchang, both esteemed academicians of the CAE, along with a distinguished cohort of research luminaries and industry experts converging to illuminate the proceedings with their invaluable expertise and unwavering commitment to scientific advancement.


Embarking on an ambitious collaborative journey, the project harnesses the collective ingenuity of Jinan University alongside esteemed partners such as the Beijing Proteome Research Center, Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harbin Medical University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Guangzhou Yilian Zhongruitu Information Technology Co., Ltd. Focused on addressing the pressing imperative of personalized prediction and drug screening for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a uniquely prevalent malignancy in China, the project endeavors to pioneer a groundbreaking digital twin system for nasopharyngeal carcinoma hypoxia. This pioneering endeavor seeks to surmount the challenges of multidimensional data integration, visualization, and spatiotemporal analysis, with an overarching goal of revolutionizing personalized, precise, and intelligent cancer care in China.

A pivotal moment unfolded as Xing Feng bestowed consultant appointment letters upon key luminaries, symbolizing a collaborative synergy rooted in academic excellence and shared vision. In his address, Xing underscored the university's unwavering commitment to nurturing talent, enhancing experimental infrastructure, optimizing project management practices, and ensuring efficacious fund utilization to propel the project towards unbridled success. 


Wang Zhenchang hailed the tumor digital twin system as a pioneering advancement poised to catalyze a paradigm shift in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and pharmaceutical research. 


Yang Baofeng emphasized the pivotal role of the National Key R&D Program in surmounting scientific challenges that have far-reaching implications for national well-being. By envisaging solutions to intricate scientific dilemmas embedded within the project's ambit, the initiative holds the potential to herald a new era of transformative progress in tumor diagnostics and therapeutics, fortifying the edifice of medical science and industry alike.


The project leader Zhang Shuixing unveiled an intricate blueprint for project implementation, outlining key research objectives, technical trajectories, anticipated outcomes, and cross-collaborative frameworks aimed at fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Engaging in a spirited dialogue with attending experts, the project leadership navigated through a labyrinth of research intricacies, inter-topic correlations, and innovative breakthroughs, paving the way for an auspicious approval of the comprehensive implementation plan for the project's four major focal points.


Charting a course towards high-quality development, the First Affiliated Hospital articulated a resolute commitment to nurturing innovative medical technologies, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and propelling the translation of research outcomes into clinical applications. With a steadfast focus on cultivating a first-class medical science ecosystem and empowering the health industry through innovative medical solutions, the hospital stands poised to catalyze a transformative journey of health innovation and excellence that will reverberate across the corridors of medical science in Jinan and beyond.
