In a recent gathering at Jinan University, experts and scholars from various regions convened to delve into the strategies for nurturing versatile media talents in the era of Artificial Intelligence and Generative Communication (AIGC). The Integrated News Innovation Forum hosted discussions on educational innovations and collaborative models for industry-university research in the evolving media landscape.
The event included a live observation of the 2024 undergraduate thesis defense performance at the School of Journalism and Communication, where experts emphasized the importance of embracing change and fostering innovative teaching methodologies to prepare students for the dynamic media environment.
Zhi Tingrong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication at Jinan University, delivering a keynote speech, highlighted the role of technology in enabling educational transformations and emphasized the need for educators to lead the way towards a future where education and technology collaborate seamlessly.

Liu Tao, the Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Jinan University, emphasized the significance of leveraging virtual teaching environments to create a community of educators that thrives on resource sharing and collaborative teaching practices. This approach aims to enhance teaching methods and design for a more integrated learning experience.
Experts like Zhou Lijin from Peking University Press stressed the importance of rapid iteration and high-quality updates in integrating news textbooks and academic publications. They proposed the establishment of interdisciplinary publishing platforms to foster the diversified development of academic resources.
Professor Chen Jiyin from Xi'an Jiaotong University advocated for a shift from traditional teaching methods towards blended learning, offering students a variety of resources and flexible educational models to enhance their initiative and lifelong learning skills.
To cultivate all-rounded media talents, Professor Chen Ying from Guangdong University of Finance emphasized the need to nurture students' innovative thinking and learning capabilities, encouraging them to challenge conventions and strive for continuous improvement in their careers.
The thesis defense showcased students' innovative projects addressing social welfare, cultural heritage, and technology integration for the elderly. These initiatives exemplified the students' creativity and proficiency in various media formats, although there is a call for enhancing academic standards in some works, as noted by Zhu Ying, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
