On April 18th, 2024, Jinan University conducted a pivotal mobilization meeting at Shipai Campus, to kick off the evaluation and assessment process for the open sharing of valuable instruments and equipment. The event, featuring a hybrid format combining in-person and virtual participation, saw the esteemed presence of Vice President Weng Jian and around 200 attendees from diverse university departments, including college heads, laboratory directors, secretaries, and administrators overseeing valuable instruments and equipment.

During the meeting, Liu Qihui, Director of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, underscored the significance of open sharing as a dual commitment and obligation essential for fostering the high-quality advancement of teaching and research endeavors within the university. Emphasizing the need for comprehensive implementation of open sharing practices, Liu outlined key directives, including meticulous planning for newly acquired instruments and equipment, stringent plagiarism checks, streamlined cost management, and equitable performance allocation. Zhang Longzhao, Deputy Director of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, delivered a comprehensive report detailing the evaluation and assessment of open sharing initiatives in 2023, highlighting accomplishments, identifying prevalent challenges, and outlining the focal points for enhancing open sharing practices in 2024.
Wang Qiwei, Vice Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, shared valuable insights from the college's experience in managing open sharing initiatives, particularly emphasizing the establishment, administration, and impact of the college-level public platform. Wang Rui, the head of the Laboratory Equipment Management Department, elucidated the logistical arrangements and specific requirements pertaining to the forthcoming evaluation and assessment activities.
In his closing remarks, Vice President Weng Jian articulated five essential requisites for advancing the open sharing of valuable instruments and equipment at Jinan University. These directives encompassed the imperative for all departments and units to prioritize the management of open sharing, uphold integrity and accuracy in data reporting, exercise prudence in instrument procurement decisions, prioritize comprehensive lifecycle management, and innovate new mechanisms such as cost-sharing frameworks to maximize resource efficiency.
The mobilization meeting served as a galvanizing platform for stakeholders to align their efforts towards enhancing the transparency, efficiency, and impact of valuable instruments and equipment sharing at Jinan University, underscoring the institution's commitment to excellence in academic and research pursuits.
