The 2024 annual meeting of the Academic Committee of the School of International Relations and the Institute of Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University was successfully convened on April 13th, with over 20 attendees including distinguished members and consultants of the base, as well as faculty members of the college. The event was presided over by Professor Ju Hailong, Dean of the School of International Relations and the Institute of Overseas Chinese Studies.

Professor Zhang Xiaoxin, Vice President of Jinan University, delivered the opening speech, acknowledging the significant progress and achievements of the Chinese Overseas Chinese Research Institute in various areas over the past year. He expressed gratitude to the academic committee members, experts, and scholars for their contributions and encouraged continued efforts towards establishing a world-class research base for overseas Chinese studies.

During the meeting, appointment letters were presented to three new members of the Academic Committee, namely Professor Ding Hong, Professor Zhang Chunwang, and Professor Ju Hailong. The Deputy Director of the Base, Professor Dai Fan, provided a comprehensive report on the base's work in 2023, highlighting achievements in scientific research, academic exchanges, social services, talent cultivation, and institutional development.

Additionally, reports were presented on the progress of major research projects at the base, focusing on topics such as the role of overseas Chinese in the new era and foreign relations between overseas Chinese and China amid significant global changes. The attending members actively participated by offering valuable opinions and suggestions on the base's work report and future development direction, particularly in preparation for the upcoming five-year evaluation and acceptance by the Ministry of Education in 2025.

Experts and scholars emphasized the importance of integrating research efforts, enhancing team cohesion, advancing base publications and think tanks, and strengthening the base's leadership role in the field of overseas Chinese studies.

The successful convening of the annual meeting signifies the commitment of Jinan University to advancing research and academic excellence in the field of international relations and overseas Chinese studies. The collaborative efforts of the academic committee members and scholars will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of the base in the years to come.
