On April 13th, the School of International Relations and the Institute of Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University successfully organized an academic seminar on Overseas Chinese Studies and Regional Ethnology. The event brought together over 50 experts and scholars from more than 20 domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, including prominent institutions like Jinan University, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, Xiamen University, and others.
Professor Zhang Xiaoxin, Vice President of Jinan University, set the tone for the seminar with an insightful opening speech. He highlighted the unique characteristics of overseas Chinese studies at Jinan University and emphasized the importance of exploring the intersection between regional ethnology and the study of overseas Chinese in the current global context. The discussion on Overseas Chinese Studies and Regional Ethnography was deemed crucial for understanding the evolving dynamics of global Chinese communities.
During the seminar, Professor Liu Hong from Nanyang Technological University delivered a keynote speech on The Rise of Global China and the Paradigm Changes of Overseas Chinese Studies, shedding light on the impact of China's development on the field of overseas Chinese studies. The need to study the changes in overseas Chinese within a broader global context was emphasized, highlighting the interconnectedness of global Chinese communities.

Keynote speakers like Zhang Chunwang and Zhang Zhenjiang, members of the Academic Committee of the Base, provided valuable insights on the importance of integrating overseas Chinese studies into international relations research and regional country studies. They stressed the need for academic and policy research to adapt to the changing landscape of overseas Chinese affairs in the new era.
The seminar also featured panel sessions focusing on various topics such as the current status and future prospects of overseas Chinese research, social environments influencing overseas Chinese identity, cross-regional immigration studies, and research on the new generation of immigrants. These discussions aimed to deepen understanding and foster collaboration on key issues related to overseas Chinese communities.
The academic seminar served as a platform for rigorous academic exchange and collaboration, paving the way for further advancements in the field of overseas Chinese studies and regional ethnology.
