The 9th Jinan University Laboratory Safety Knowledge Competition, held in conjunction with the 2nd Guangdong Province University Laboratory Safety Knowledge Intercollegiate Invitational Competition, took place on April 15th at the Shipai Campus. Organized by the School of Life Science and Technology and hosted by the Laboratory and Equipment Management Office of Jinan University, the event saw participation from esteemed figures such as Vice President Weng Jian of Jinan University, Minister Chen Liang from the Higher Education Department of the Guangdong Provincial Education Equipment Center, and leaders from various departments within the university.

During his address, Vice President Weng Jian emphasized the importance of diligence in upholding laboratory safety standards, advocating for strict adherence to safety protocols, proactive identification and rectification of hazards, and the implementation of thorough safety education and training. He encouraged participants to view the competition as an opportunity to bolster safety awareness and become advocates for a culture of laboratory safety in their academic and research pursuits.

Minister Chen Liang commended the implementation of the laboratory safety management scoring system at Jinan University and expressed support for cross-institutional safety competitions. He highlighted the need for continuous improvement in safety management through enhanced ideological understanding, preservation of traditions, and exploration of innovative safety promotion strategies.

The competition featured a knockout stage followed by a team qualifying stage, with participants displaying dedication and competitive spirit throughout. The quiz segment added excitement to the event, with the audience actively engaging in interactive activities. Ultimately, teams from the School of Basic Medicine and the School of Public Health, as well as the School of Stomatology and the School of Basic Medicine and Public Health, emerged as winners, earning the opportunity to represent the university in the inter-school invitational competition.

Liu Qihui, Director of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, underscored the pivotal role of laboratory safety in academic pursuits and character development. He outlined the university's commitment to establishing a comprehensive laboratory safety education system characterized by standardized content, diverse formats, and a focus on promoting safety culture across all levels of the institution.
