In a significant development, the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam is currently underway for the first time in the mainland, specifically in examination venues in Guangzhou. The Education Bureau of Guangzhou confirmed this groundbreaking initiative on April 11th, marking a milestone in cross-border educational cooperation.

Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong & Macau Students serves as one of the pioneering DSE examination venues in the mainland the first in Guangzhou. Fifty-three Grade 6 students from the school are participating in the examination, eliminating the need for them to travel to Hong Kong. Candidates in Guangzhou and Hong Kong are utilizing the same test papers and are being assessed according to identical evaluation criteria.

Wei Xiangdong, the Secretary General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEA), visited the examination venue at Jinan University in Guangzhou to oversee the examination process. Officials from various educational bodies, including the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Education Department of Guangdong Province, Jinan University, the Education Bureau of Guangzhou City, and the Guangdong Examination Institute, also inspected the examination progress.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Guangzhou ensured that the examination venue met the standards set for Hong Kong venues. Multiple inspections were conducted, and under Hong Kong's guidance, the venue was meticulously arranged, including the secure storage and transportation of test papers, stringent monitoring processes, and on-site logistics.

On the examination day, strict measures were implemented to guarantee the smooth conduct of the exam. Timely transportation of test papers, monitored by security personnel and cameras, ensured fairness and confidentiality. Guangzhou Jinan University Hong Kong and Macao Children's School provided comprehensive on-site support to facilitate an optimal exam environment for all candidates.

The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) is a crucial assessment for students completing secondary education, enabling them to apply to universities based on their exam scores. Previously, students from the mainland had to travel to Hong Kong to take the exam, posing logistical challenges. However, with the establishment of examination centers in mainland cities, such as Guangzhou, candidates can now undertake the DSE exam locally, streamlining the process and enhancing accessibility for students in the Greater Bay Area.

This historic collaboration signifies a significant step towards educational integration and cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland, benefiting students and fostering academic excellence in the region.
