In a bid to foster a culture of critical engagement and intellectual exploration, the JNU Library recently played host to the 2024 Guangdong Academic Library & Information Committee Learning Cup Film Criticism Competition Work Experience Sharing Conference. The event, organized jointly by the Exchange and Cooperation Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Library and Information Work Guidance Committee and the Vocational and Technical College Sub-committee, drew over 140 representatives from 71 universities across the province, underscoring the significance of collaborative knowledge exchange in the realm of film criticism.

The conference unfolded in two distinct segments, with the first segment featuring insightful addresses by prominent leaders such as Lin Ming, Secretary General of the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Library and Information Work Guidance Committee, and Liu Zenghe, Director of Jinan University Library. Lin Ming commended the successful execution of the Learning Cup film review competition, noting its sustained growth in participation and manuscript quality over the years. He emphasized the pivotal role of innovation in sustaining the competition's enduring appeal, while articulating fresh expectations for the forthcoming edition, encapsulating his well-wishes for a fruitful and impactful event.

In his address, Liu Zenghe extended heartfelt appreciation to the distinguished guests and leaders in attendance, affirming the competition's instrumental role as a vital platform for students to engage with traditional Chinese culture and cultivate values of cultural appreciation and patriotism. As a key organizer, Jinan University Library pledged unwavering support to ensure the competition's seamless operation and delivery of exceptional services.
The second segment of the conference showcased a vibrant exchange of experiences in film review work, featuring representatives from award-winning units such as Jinan University Library, Guangzhou Sports College Library, Guangdong Construction Vocational and Technical College Library, and Guangzhou City Vocational College Library. These esteemed representatives shared insights on innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and motivation through a spectrum of activities, ranging from film review salons to interactive viewing sessions, underscoring the diverse strategies employed to enrich the competition experience.
Noteworthy contributions included Du Lan's elucidation on student motivation enhancement at Jinan University Library, Wu Liping's introduction of a bespoke viewing mini-program at Guangzhou Sports University Library, Cai Hongyuan's discourse on film review workflow optimization at Guangdong Construction Vocational and Technical College Library, and He Wenbo's insights on fostering efficient collaboration between the library and college at Guangzhou City Vocational College Library.
The conference also featured a special address by Zhang Zhiheng, a master's student from Jinan University, who shared invaluable tips on crafting exemplary film reviews, emphasizing the importance of broadening one's cinematic horizons, deepening knowledge in film criticism, and nurturing a genuine passion for cinema as the cornerstone of exceptional critique.

The Guangdong Academic Library Learning Cup Film Criticism Competition has emerged as a beacon of academic excellence and cultural enrichment since its inception in 2017, drawing widespread participation and acclaim from universities across the province. With a staggering 30,494 valid manuscripts received from nearly 116 universities, the competition stands as a testament to the enduring allure of film criticism and the power of collaborative scholarship in shaping a vibrant intellectual landscape.
