In a significant stride towards advancing pharmaceutical research and innovation, the School of Pharmacy at JNU has unveiled the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacodynamic Material Foundation and Innovative Drug Research Joint Laboratory. This cutting-edge laboratory, approved and granted official licensure for construction on January 12, 2024, marks a pivotal development in the university's pursuit of excellence in pharmaceutical studies.
The establishment of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Joint Laboratory comes on the heels of a directive issued by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology in December 2023, calling for the creation of the third cohort of Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Joint Laboratories. Positioned as a premier technological cooperation platform in Guangdong Province, the joint laboratory stands as a testament to JNU's commitment to advancing its pharmaceutical discipline within the ambit of the Double First Class initiative.
Since 2019, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology has greenlit the establishment of 31 Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Joint Laboratories, underscoring the province's strategic focus on fostering collaborative research endeavors. The newly minted joint laboratory, dedicated to the study of Materia Medica and Innovative Drugs, leverages the expertise and resources of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for the Study of Materia Medica and Innovative Drugs, spearheaded by the School of Pharmacy.
Led by Professor Ye Wencai from the School of Pharmacy, the joint laboratory operates in close collaboration with esteemed partners from the University of Macau and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, harnessing a wealth of advantageous resources to drive groundbreaking research in traditional Chinese medicine and innovative drug development.
With a keen eye on international academic trends and national strategic imperatives, the Joint Laboratory of Material Basis of Efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Innovative Medicine Research in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao embarks on a multidimensional research agenda. Focused on the development of innovative medicines, the laboratory aims to enhance the secondary development of renowned traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations, while also spearheading initiatives in the standardization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine and natural medicines.
By breaking new ground in key technologies, quality standards, and novel drug varieties, the joint laboratory endeavors to propel the modernization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, catalyzing the growth of innovative drugs in China. This concerted effort aligns with the broader vision of fostering an international science and technology innovation hub and promoting a healthier China within the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
