In a significant achievement for JNU, the institution has been granted approval by the National Study Abroad Fund Commission for its participation in the 2024 Innovation Talent International Cooperation Training Project. The announcement, made by the International Exchange and Cooperation Division on January 12, heralds the success of two key initiatives aimed at fostering cutting-edge research and talent development in strategic areas.
The first project, the PhD Cultivation Project of Air Quality Science and Management of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aligns with national priorities in addressing atmospheric pollution and advancing towards carbon neutrality. In collaboration with the Australian Queensland University of Science and Technology, the project focuses on training high-level international talents in disciplines such as environmental science, environmental engineering, atmospheric science, and management science. Initially approved in 2019, the project has seen the selection of 9 doctoral students for joint training at Queensland University. With the latest approval extending the implementation period to 2024-2026, selected students will undergo comprehensive training as part of their doctoral studies.
The second initiative, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Biomedical Ph.D. International Cooperation Cultivation Project, is designed to address the healthcare challenges outlined in the Healthy China 2030 development agenda. Emphasizing advancements in biomedicine and traditional Chinese medicine, the project collaborates with the University of Leuven in Belgium to nurture innovative talents in pharmaceutical research. Since its approval in 2021, the project has facilitated the training of 6 doctoral students at the University of Leuven, with the recent extension of funding ensuring continued support until 2026. Selected students will engage in doctoral studies, joint training programs, visiting scholar roles, and postdoctoral research positions as part of the project's comprehensive framework.
These endeavors are part of the broader Innovative Talent International Cooperation Training Project established by the State Council of Study Abroad, underscoring the commitment to advancing national strategies and excellence in education. By fostering strong partnerships with international institutions and nurturing a new generation of innovative talents, JNU continues to play a pivotal role in driving forward research and development efforts in key areas of importance.
