JNU has been granted approval by the Ministry of Education as an Innovative Base for Collaborative Training of Foreign Legal Talents, as per a recent announcement jointly issued by the General Office of the Ministry of Education and the Secretariat of the Central Office of Rule of Law. Notably, JNU is one of the three universities in Guangdong Province to receive this prestigious designation, alongside Peking University, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, and other esteemed institutions.
The establishment of the Innovation Base for Collaborative Training of Foreign Legal Talents aligns with the directives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council to expedite the development of foreign-related legal talents. In accordance with the arrangements of the Central Committee for Comprehensive Rule of Law, and following a rigorous evaluation process involving application, expert deliberation, and consultation with relevant central and state departments and university representatives nationwide, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Central Office of Rule of Law, has finalized the list of innovative collaborative training bases for foreign-related rule of law talents. The primary objective of this initiative is to nurture a cohort of foreign-related legal professionals characterized by unwavering political commitment, exceptional professional competence, a deep understanding of international regulations, and proficiency in foreign-related legal practice.
JNU has established a collaborative training framework with legal practice entities such as the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court, and Guangdong Guangxin Junda Law Firm, with the aim of cultivating expertise in foreign-related legislation, law enforcement, and judiciary. This mechanism has received official endorsement, underscoring its effectiveness and credibility.
The Law Department of JNU stands as one of the earliest national centers for outstanding legal talent education and training, and serves as a national extracurricular practice activity base for college students. Notably, the Law and Intellectual Property majors offered by the Law School/Intellectual Property School are designated as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. With nearly a century of dedicated development, JNU has established a comprehensive system for training high-caliber legal professionals, spanning undergraduate education in law and intellectual property, as well as advanced programs including master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral education in law. This distinguished institution has emerged as a pivotal hub for legal education in South China.
In the wake of this recognition, the university is poised to consolidate its efforts in talent cultivation in collaboration with practical departments, in adherence to the stipulations outlined in the official document. The aim is to deepen collaborative education and expedite the development of top-tier foreign-related legal talents, thereby contributing JNU's expertise and capabilities to bolstering China's foreign-related legal infrastructure, particularly in the realm of the rule of law for Hong Kong, Macao, and overseas Chinese in Taiwan.
