Nine universities in Guangdong, including Jinan University, have secured the highest number of projects planned to be selected as major projects of the National Social Science Fund for 2023, according to a recent announcement by the National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences. The list of approved projects involves 143 teaching and research institutions, with 120 universities being selected.
A total of 26 projects from 9 universities in Guangdong are planned to be selected, with Jinan University leading the pack with 8 programs, followed by Sun Yat-sen University with 7 programs, and others contributing to the remaining projects. The projects cover a wide range of topics, including literature, history, global business, network governance, Chinese culture, and more.
JNU has 8 programs as follows:
1. Compilation and research of literature materials from overseas Chinese literary societies and journals over the past century by Bai Yang
2. Research on the History of the Publicity Work of the CPC (1921-1949) by Chen Long
3. Research on Global Chinese Business Asset Estimation and High-Quality Integration into the New Development Pattern by Wu Zhanchi
4. Theoretical and practical research on improving the comprehensive network governance system under the new security framework by Cai Lihui
5. Compilation of Classic Symbol Genealogy of Chinese Culture and Research on Digital Humanistic Communication by Liu Tao
6. Collection, organization, and research of historical materials on Chinese labor by the International Labour Organization (1919-2022) by Zhang Longping
7. Research on Institutional Design and Implementation Path for Promoting the Effective Integration of Digital Economy and Real Economy by Rao Pingui
8. Research on Unification and Secession in European History by Li Yunfei
The focus of the 2023 National Social Science Foundation Major Project Bidding Announcement includes basic theoretical research, applied strategy research, and interdisciplinary research, with basic theoretical research taking precedence. A total of 317 bidding topics have been released, covering 23 disciplines, with funding intensity ranging from 600,000 to 800,000 yuan per project.
The announcement also outlines the evaluation process, which includes a mid-term inspection and evaluation two years after the project approval, with rolling funding provided to projects showing significant progress and results.
