The drama Deep Sea was performed in the auditorium of Shipai Campus on Dec. 14. The play tells about the outstanding contributions made by Academician Huang Xuhua, known as the father of China's nuclear submarine, to its leapfrog development, praising Huang's selfless dedication, and cultivating patriotic feelings among it audience of over 1,300 students and faculty members.

Taking the nuclear submarine deep diving as the theme, Deep Sea tells the story of Huang’s remarkable life. During the war against Japanese aggression, he was forced to leave his hometown (Jieyang City, Guangdong Province). In 1988, as chief designer, he boarded China's first-generation nuclear submarine to carry out the first 300-meter-limit deep dive test in the South China Sea, returning to an emotional reunion with his mother.

Produced by the Guangdong Drama Art Theater, Deep Sea has won many awards, including the Outstanding Work Award in the 16th Five Projects for Spiritual Civilization Construction by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China; the Outstanding Play Award at the 17th China Theater Festival, and the Cao Yu Playwriting Award at the ninth China Drama Awards. Combining such elements as family, love, music and dance, the play gives its solemn subject a strong sense of storytelling and spectacle.
