The team of Profs. Ye Wencai and Wang Ying from JNU's College of Pharmacy has published its research on the synthesis of natural products in Angewandte Chemie International Edition (DOI: 10.1002/anie.202312568). After systematic research, the team found that the correct identification and effective combination of biogenetic building are key to the successful biomimetic synthesis of natural products. It also proposed the first synthesis strategy based on biogenetic building blocks and applied it to the biomimetic synthesis of natural products with complex structures.

The paper reports that the strategy has been successfully applied to synthesizing cinnamoyl phloroglucinol analogs with novel structures. This synthetic strategy is characterized by high efficiency, simplicity, atom economy and diversity orientation, which can be used to rapidly construct natural products and their analogs with diverse skeletal structures and rich stereo-configurations in a clustered manner. Since most of the natural products are assembled from specific biogenetic building blocks, this strategy can be widely applied to the study of biomimetic synthesis of natural products.
