Prof. Wang Zhiwei of JNU's College of Packaging Engineering led a project titled “Detection and Risk Assessment Technology of Food Contact Materials Under Complex Supply Chain” to first prize in the 2023 Packaging Industry Science and Technology Awards, the industry’s highest award.

The team has taken the lead in researching the migration and safety of chemicals in food packaging materials in China since 2003 and completed a series of major national projects. It has organized and integrated technical teams in food contact material safety from Chinese universities, risk assessment agencies, customs, quality inspection and enterprises, achieving systematic innovative results and opening a new stage of food packaging safety. Targeting the major problems and needs of food contact material safety under the complex supply chain, the team has worked to solve the key scientific and core technological problems of food contact material testing and risk assessment, providing important theoretical and technological support in the safety of food and food contact materials.

Wang's Transportation Packaging, published by China Light Industry Press, won first prize in the fourth China Light Industry Excellent Textbook Competition in March, the top award in this field. This textbook has been widely used in packaging engineering and related majors in Chinese universities and colleges, becoming the designated textbook for the national first-class undergraduate course and the massive open online course Transportation Packaging.
