GUANGZHOU - On November 18, a celebration marking the 117th anniversary of Jinan University and the launching ceremony for its upcoming 120th anniversary was held in Guangzhou. As a renowned institution known as the highest university of overseas Chinese, Jinan University has achieved remarkable success in recent years, steadily improving its overall strength.

The purpose of this event is to further harness the wisdom and capabilities of individuals from around the globe, especially those in southern China, and strive to develop Jinan University into a distinguished, world-class institution with unique characteristics as it enters its 120th year, stated Lin Rupeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University, in his speech that commenced the ceremony.

During the ceremony, President Song Xianzhong expressed his anticipation for the future development of the university. He emphasized that Jinan University will continue to prioritize enhancing the quality of talent, vigorously foster peak disciplines, strengthen its educational framework with a focus on unity and diversity, embrace innovative guidance, promote strategies to bolster the university through talent cultivation, and deepen international exchanges and cooperation. These efforts aim to contribute Jinan's intellectual prowess and capabilities to the nation's cultural, educational, scientific, technological, and talent development goals.

The event featured several programs, including a large-scale media interview program titled Jinan University Embraces Overseas Engagement to Preserve and Promote Chinese Traditional Culture in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as 120 High-End Academic Lectures in celebration of the university's 120th anniversary.

Furthermore, a collective donation ceremony took place during the event. It is worth noting that the combined donations made during the 117th anniversary celebration and the launching ceremony for the 120th anniversary surpassed a total of 140 million yuan.
