JINAN UNIVERSITY, Guangzhou - The sixth Basic Skills Competition for Physical Education majors in colleges and universities across Guangdong Province took place at Jinan University from November 18 to 21. Sponsored by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and hosted by Jinan University, the competition provided a platform for students to demonstrate and discuss their fundamental skills.
JNU's Vice President Professor Zhang Ronghua expressed confidence in Jinan University's ability to successfully host the competition. He emphasized the university's commitment to meeting the requirements set by the organizing committee, ensuring the event's seamless execution.
Cheng Daxin, a member of the party group and deputy director of the Provincial Department of Education, outlined key objectives for the competition. These included identifying and addressing deficiencies, nurturing students to become pillars supporting the high-quality development of physical education in Guangdong, enhancing the training quality of physical education professionals, and strengthening the connection between colleges and universities and primary and secondary schools in the realm of physical education.
The opening ceremony featured performances by the College Student Art Troupe, showcasing the rich tradition of Chinese culture through Dancing in all directions, Yong Chun Ying Song, and a martial arts demonstration by the high-level sports team of Jida Wushu.

Over the course of four days, nearly 400 team leaders, coaches, and players from 15 colleges and universities participated in the competition, engaging in theoretical knowledge assessments, teaching skill demonstrations, and sports skill showcases. Disciplines such as track and field, football, martial arts, gymnastics, swimming, broadcast exercises, and queue formation were included in the sports skill's competition.
The competition involved both group and individual scoring systems, encompassing teaching skills, special abilities, and overall team performance. Awards such as the Team Award, Individual Award, Outstanding Instructor Award, Outstanding Contribution Award, Outstanding Referee, Outstanding Staff Award, and Outstanding Organization Award will be presented to recognize exceptional achievements.
The successful execution of the Basic Skills Competition at Jinan University exemplified the province's commitment to nurturing skilled individuals in the realm of physical education. By bringing together aspiring students and providing a platform for skill enhancement and knowledge exchange, the event not only advanced the field but also encouraged students to strive for excellence.
