Profs. Li Baojun and Guo Tuan from JNU's College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering have been listed as 2024 Optica Fellows. A total of 129 scientists from 26 countries were elected to the list, announced by Optica, formerly OSA: Optical Society of America. It includes 29 Chinese optics scholars, with only three mainland Chinese universities – Peking University, Tsinghua University and JNU – having two scholars concurrently.

Optica cited Li's pioneering use of poly(trimrthylene terephthalate) polymer in flexible nanofibers and cell-based living nanoprobes in optical trapping and manipulation, and Guo's pioneering work and outstanding contributions to energy storage monitoring using optical fiber sensing technologies.
To date, five JNU scholars had been elected Optica Fellows, all professors in the newly formed College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering: Yao Jianping (2010), Zhou Changhe (2017), Guan Baiou (2020), Li and Guo.
Founded in 1916, Optica is the world's leading academic organization in the optics field, with members in over 180 countries and regions. Its mission is to promote the development of optics and photonics globally while providing high-caliber information services to specialists in many fields, including physics, biology, medicine, electrical engineering, communications, materials science and mechanical engineering. Optica Fellow is its highest academic honour bestowed on specialists through a rigorous selection process in which members are found to have made significant contributions to the advancement of optics.
