JNU held a meeting with the group and a briefing on the construction of the discipline on Oct. 23. On behalf of the school, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng extended a warm welcome and hearty appreciation to the expert group for its inspection and guidance. JNU President Song Xianzhong gave an overview of the school and the building of the nursing discipline.
Sun Hongyu, a professor at Peking University, described the purpose, significance and procedural requirements of accreditation for nursing education. She said she hoped that, through the efforts for accreditation and strengthening the school's educational characteristics, the working group could help the school find problems in the discipline-building to promote the quality of nursing education.
Chen Weiju, the Nursing School's dean and head of the discipline, gave a general introduction to JNU, the department and the school, as well as a work report on the nursing discipline's construction, educational characteristics, current problems and future development.
At the meeting, the expert group raised some questions on the building of the teaching staff and the discipline's positioning and development goals, and JNU's application for a doctoral program.
During the inspection, the group paid a site visit to the JNU History Museum, the library, the anatomy laboratory, the laboratory of functional science and the nursing experiment training center. The group also visited clinical teaching bases including the First Affiliated Hospital and the JNU Community Health Service Center. The experts communicated with the teachers and studied teaching materials in the five teaching and research departments: basic nursing, internal medical nursing, surgical nursing, maternal and child nursing, and nursing humanities and sociology. They also observed classes in pathology, psychiatric nursing and introduction to nursing science. The group held 12 meetings with teachers, students and employers to learn about the nursing education situation and seek opinions and suggestions for discipline-building and talent training.
