Having shown a strong interest in Chinese culture and history since childhood, Huang enrolled in JNU's Chinese language and literature major. The major requires you to read several classics on a regular basis, she said, giving the impression that you definitely need to have a certain level of literary literacy. To Huang, Chinese language and literature can be a perfect blend of her interest and major.
Since coming to JNU, Huang has made friends with many of her classmates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Touching on the culture of overseas Chinese at JNU, she said she was most impressed by the donation ceremony at the 30th anniversary of the College of Arts Alumni Association. She also said she was pleasantly surprised to discover at the ceremony that JNU alumni come from all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, France, and even some countries she hadn’t heard of.

In addition, she said, she gained deep insight into her mission from a trip organized by JNU to Jiangmen, a city in Guangdong where many overseas Chinese have their roots. “I have a strong sense of mission that I ought to serve as a bridge to strengthen the ties between the motherland and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan so that we can be more cohesive and heartfelt with each other,” she said.
I'm a long-termist, she added, and my target at JNU is to get a postgraduate recommendation. So I have to plan my studies carefully.
