Prof. Li Dan’s research team from JNU's College of Chemistry and Materials Science has reported an important breakthrough in coordination-saturated buckyball with a C60 molecule with Prof. Zhan Sunze of Shantou University. Their article has published in Angewandte Chemie International.Edition (doi.org/10.1002/anie.202312698) as a hot paper.

Fully utilizing the characteristic of C60 spherical molecules with 30 double bonds, the researchers have made the core-shell structure of fullerene saturated coordination C60@Cu30 for the first time, achieving the milestone of C60 saturated coordination. The copper chloride (I) fullerene material with C60 as the core has high absorption efficiency for visible and even near-infrared light, providing a beneficial reference for the development of highly efficient metal fullerene optical functional materials.
