Jinan University won eight awards as the first completing unit in the 2022 Guangdong Science and Technology Awards (PGGP [2023] No. 38). They included two first-class awards, four second-class, one Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award and one Scientific and Technological Achievements Promotion Award. 

JNU's first-class prize-winners in the Awards for Improvement in Science and Technology were The Innovation and Scale Application of Scientific Connotation Interpretation on Prevention and Treatment of Degenerative Bone Disease Based on the Theory of Kidney Governing Bone, headed by Prof. Zhang Ronghua of the College of Pharmacy, and Key Technology and Applications of VOCs Cruise Monitoring System for Vehicle-Mounted of Flight Mass Spectrometry, headed by Prof. Zhou Zhen of the Institute of Mass Spectrometry and Atmospheric Environment. Prof. He Rongrong of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine won the Young Science and Technology Innovation Award, and Key Technologies and Applications of High Hardness, Toughness and Abrasion-Resistant Steel Materials, headed by Prof. Li Wei of the Institute of Advanced Wear and Corrosion-Resistant and Functional Materials, won the Scientific and Technological Achievements Promotion Award. Their achievements are an important manifestation of the achievements of JNU’s construction as a double-first-class and high-level university, strongly supporting national innovation-driven development and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This year, Guangdong gave 220 awards: 2 special prizes, 49 first prizes, 123 second prizes, 2 Outstanding Contribution Awards, 4 Science and Technology Cooperation Awards, 24 Youth Science and Technology Innovation Awards, and 16 Scientific and Technological Achievements Promotion Awards. The new Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award mainly rewards researchers under 40 who have made major innovative breakthroughs in scientific research, while the Scientific and Technological Achievements Promotion Award mainly rewards outstanding scientific and technological achievements that have been popularized, applied and achieved significant economic and social benefits in eastern and northwest Guangdong.
